Animals teach us how to live.

Animals are wise with knowledge about how to live with the earth.
They let us know how our planet is doing. Native Americans have countless stories about how animals teach us how to live and respect each other for what the other is. For example, the Lakota Legend of the Meadowlark and Rattlesnake. Even though there is danger to the mother Meadowlark, she uses her wits to contend with the snake. They do not wage war with each other. Several years ago, in a college class I was teaching, I asked 30 students if they knew what a Meadowlark was. Not one student could tell me. That is frightening. Why would people want to save something that has no meaning to them?
