Research wolves killed outside of Yellowstone
Radio Collared Wolf (USFWS)Wolf hunting in the Northern Rockies is taking a toll on Yellowstone packs. Recently, it was discovered that seven radio-collared wolves that were part of an ongoing study were shot and killed just outside the park boundary. The loss of these wolves is a serious setback for wolf researchers.

New Hope for Ending Shark Trade

Endangered hammerhead sharks may get a new lease on life. Six countries, including Mexico and Brazil, have formally endorsed a proposal to ban trade in hammerhead shark fins and other parts at the bi-annual meeting of the upcoming conference of parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

North Carolina Court Halts Spotlight Hunting of Coyotes
CoyoteDefenders of Wildlife joined a number of other conservation groups in court to stop spotlight hunting of coyotes at night. The hunting was occurring statewide and included areas that are inhabited by the only wild population of about 100 red wolves. After four critically endangered red wolves were shot and killed, a North Carolina court issued a temporary restraining order to stop the night hunts. Red wolves are similar to coyotes in color and size, making it virtually impossible for hunters to tell them apart.
