Our addiction to dirty fossil fuels is driving polar bears to the brink of extinction. Tell your Representative to vote YES on the CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 (H.R. 6) for a cleaner, safer energy future. A vote is scheduled for tomorrow!
Help us reach our goal of 40,000 actions by tomorrow's vote! Forward this message to five people who care about wildlife.
Dear Wildlife Supporter,
This month, a new Congress was sworn in -- and with it comes new hope for a clean energy future and a safer world for polar bears and other wildlife.
One of the top agenda items of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is to cut Big Oil tax breaks and recover billions in unpaid royalties -- money that the industry owes the federal government for drilling on our public lands. These funds will be invested in efficiency and renewable energy.
A vote is scheduled to take place tomorrow on this important legislation.
For too long, Big Oil has raked in record profits and used its influence to open our most precious public lands to dirty drilling. And for too long, allies in Congress have played along, threatening to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- one of the most important denning habitats for our remaining polar bears -- and opening up our shores to Big Oil’s rigs.
But, just last month, the Fish & Wildlife Service acknowledged the dangers of global warming for one of our most beloved creatures, proposing to list the polar bear as threatened on the Endangered Species Act.
Now, Congress has an opportunity to make a difference for polar bears and other wildlife threatened by our addiction to fossil fuels. The CLEAN Energy Act of 2007 would reduce our dependence on fossil fuels by making substantial investments in renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power -- an important first step in the fight against global warming.
